What is Stress?

Our bodies are well equipped to handle stress in small doses, such as in fight or flight circumstances, but when that stress becomes long-term or chronic, it can have serious effects on your body. Our modern lifestyles often put us in an almost continuous state of stress. Family problems, financial difficulties, issues at work, insufficient exercise and poor diet all add to our stress load. Stress is both a physical and mental factor, and the two are intimately related.  Since mental stress causes physical reactions – like high blood pressure, tense muscles and hormonal imbalances – our bodies can only take so much before our health starts to suffer.
